In an effort to be more sustainable at their annual Sips and Sounds Music Festival, Coca-Cola rolled out their “Recycle and Refresh” campaign for their annual Sips and Sounds Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
I was tasked with working alongside Leap Technologies to create an RFID solution in tandem with Coca-Cola’s “Recycle and Refresh” program. Festival goers were encouraged to recycle as many items as possible on the festival grounds with the incentive of receiving points that could be used to redeem exclusive festival merchandise like hats, t-shirts, and cross body bags.
The point system was hosted within festival goers RFID ticket wristbands. All attendees needed to do was tap their band on our RFID readers at each recycling station for each item they recycled. One point was awarded for each item recycled.
When the guests were ready to cash in their points, they would head to our redemption tent where Brand Ambassadors would prompt them to tap their wristband and confirm their point total. They would be presented with their prize options and choose on which item they wanted.
The software was built referencing each individual RFID chip on the wristbands sent out to all attendees. We worked with Frontgate Tickets (ticket management company of the festival) to make sure they sent over all unique identifying codes for each band. The software would then read that unique identifier and award it points accordingly through our readers at each station.
The program was a huge success with thousands of attendees across the grounds recycling nearly 1,000 pounds of plastic and aluminum.
